At SZBio, services will range from screening to physical evaluation and exercise prescription. Out of these three services, screening can be done as a stand-alone or as part of an initial consultation.
An initial consultation (health screening and physical evaluation) is required before exercise prescription can occur.
Exercise prescription involves your biokineticist designing a physical activity program for you as a treatment sequence or as a home exercise program. However, if a home program is chosen, you must come in at least once for familiarization with the program to ensure you are doing the exercises correctly and safely.
Within six months of your initial consultation and for the same condition, a re-evaluation can be booked (at a lower cost) for the program to be adjusted and progressed.
A familiarization session will be required if a home program is chosen again.
1. Initial Consultation
An initial consultation begins with filling in of medical forms and health history questions. Next, your biokineticist will take you into the consultation room, where further history questions will be asked to better understand your health and why you are visiting a biokineticist. History questions give more guidance on which physical tests must be conducted, which forms the bulk of the initial consultation. At the end of the consultation, exercise counseling and education will occur to inform you briefly of the assessment findings. A health report can also be requested at an additional cost. Finally, an exercise session can be scheduled. After a period of time, a re-evaluation (within three months of the initial evaluation and for the same condition) can be booked at a lower cost to measure your improvement and adjust your exercise prescription.
2. Physical Rehabilitation
Your exercise session(s)/home program will be tailor-made to your time availability, goals, and health needs. Sessions will involve physical activity based on scientific evidence. Importantly, due to therapy requiring you to move your body, always come in wearing comfortable clothing, with the right shoes, and bring water.
3. Online Sessions or Home Visits
Home visits or online sessions can be done on request, which brings physical rehabilitation to your home. Your biokineticist will physically or virtually be present in the comfort of your home to guide you through your exercise session. You are still required to come into the practice for your initial consultation, and from there, a home visit or online session plan can be arranged to ensure that you are guided through your health journey in the best way that suits you. Due to capacity, home visits will only be available to those who live in the Strand, Somerset West, or Gordon’s Bay area, are older than 55 years of age or have a medical reason making a home visit safer for their health.
4. Medical Aid Programs
Medical aids run various programs to aid you in accessing Biokinetics services. At SZBio we currently form part of the SasolMed Weight Management Program, Medscheme Weight Management Program, and Old Mutual Fitness Assessment.
If you would like to boost your Discovery Vitality points, we also conduct Vitality Fitness Assessments (VFA) and Vitality Functional Assessments (VFuA).
